Obituary of Bertha M. Newman

NEWMAN BERTHA  M.  –

Bertha Mae (Lingley) Newman, wife of the late John W. Newman passed unexpectedly at the Charlotte County Hospital on Sunday May 5th, 2024. Born in Lubec, Maine on October 1, 1934, daughter of the late Louis & Cecelia (Maloney) Lingley.

Bertha graduated from Lubec High School and began working at Trident Packing Company in Lubec, ME where she later transferred with the company to Portland. She moved to Campobello with the love of her life, John, where they were married in 1969. Bertha also worked at the Campobello School as a custodian. She enjoyed the children, as well as the staff members so much. She was a devoted participant of St. Anne’s Anglican Church and enjoyed worshiping with her church family.

On sunny days, you would find her friends gathering on her lawn for good times. There was never a lack of her delicious homemade squares, sandwiches, and other treats. Bertha loved to entertain, no one ever left hungry!

Bertha was blessed by her loving relationship with her daughter Stephanie and husband Brent Kinney, as well as her granddaughter Jenna and husband Cody Morton.

She is survived by her sister Jeannine Haskins of Lubec, ME, sister Carolyn Newman of Campobello, sister–in–law Ernestene Newman, brother–in–law Wells Newman and lots of special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bertha was predeceased by her husband John Newman and two sisters, Elaine Campbell, and Eileen Parker.

By Bertha’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, however, friends are welcome to attend a graveside service to be held at St. Anne’s Anglican Church Cemetery (76 North Road Welshpool NB) at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 9th. Canon Kevin Borthwick officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Anne’s Church Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences to the family or donations can be made at www.humphreysfh.com

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care & direction of Humphreys Funeral Home, 20 Marks Street St. Stephen, NB E3L 2B2 (506 – 466 – 3110)
