Hospice is a term derived from a medieval word meaning a place of shelter for travellers on difficult journeys. Today the term is used to describe programs that care in a special way for people with a life limiting illness and their families. The services we provide are free . It is a non - profit organization, relying soley on financial support from the community and from local fundraising events. They do not receive any government funding in Charlotte County. Our Volunteers are caring concerned men and women of all ages and backgrounds who undergo careful screening and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines. Hospice Volunteers provide non medical practical and emotional support, companionship, information and resources to patients and their families with life limiting illnesses who wish to remain at home. For those who prefer or need hospitalization, Hospice of Charlotte will provide companionship and support. Grief Peer support groups are facilitated regularly. Eligiblity to receive this service is based on any Charlotte County Resident wose illness is unlikely to be cured and whose life expectancy is therefore limited. Hospice of Charlotte
